"War of the English dubs, Streamline wins!!"
The Pioneer version of Akira is the worst ever made so far, they butchered it by replacing the original dub with the crappy one. Its dumbed down so anyone can enjoy it, only smart and appreciative Akira fans should enjoy this anime. The acting was played through and lifeless, the characters sounded annoying as well. My example is Kaneda, thats Kuh-nay-duh, not Kah-nah-dah!! In the Streamline one, Kaneda was voiced by Jimmy Flinders, who voiced Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That Kaneda sounded cool and tough. In the Pioneer one, Kaneda was voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, who voiced Vash from Trigun. That Kaneda sounded like a p*ssy. Plus, the certain dubs have the characters corellated with other cartoon characters with the same voice. Who is a more respectable cartoon character, Leonardo or Vash? Exactly, Leo is much more respectable than Vash. Leo kills his foes and acts tough, Vash doesn't and acts like a little girl!! Kay's Streamline voice was much better than her Pioneer one. Kay was voiced by Wendy Lee, who voiced Faye from Cowboy Bebop. The Streamline Kay sounded great, the Pioneer one sounded annoying. The Espers' Streamline voiced were much better because they fit their actual age, Maseru's was the best out of the three. In the Pioneer one, they sounded like kids when they weren't. The way the names were pronounded has changed too, they try to sound politically correct. Just listen to the way they say Kaneda and Akira, god I wanna smash my DVD player!! It was bad enough that Pioneer changed the original dub, but replacing the excelent voices with substandard voices from Trigun and Cowboy Bebop is a crime against humanity!! The guy responsible for the re-dub deserves to be killed!! You won the battle SharpX13, but you lost the war!! I stand triumphant on your pile of rubble that supported this crappy version of Akira!! You should be killed not just for supporting the Pioneer Akira, but also for saying Vash is better than Leo!! Leo could kill Vash with ease!! For those grumbing about this crappy version of Akira, grumble no more. If you want the Streamline Akira on DVD, go to ezdvd.com.au and order the Australian Akira DVD. Just make sure you have a regionless DVD player, if you don't, get one!! This Akira not only has the original dub, its also in widescreen and has the crisp picture!! If you do this, you'll be as happy as you were before the Pioneer atrocity. You won't regret my advice!! Happy hunting!!

"DTS doesn't change the fact it has the sh*tty new dub!!"
When the first Akira DVD was released in America, it got a huge backlash from Akira fans from the late 80s/early 90s because they replace the superb Streamline dub with their sh*tty new dub. One year later, Pioneer releases Akira again but with DTS. How is this gonna appease the old-time Akira fans?!! After one year of protests and hate-mail, why do they release Akira unchanged?!! I bought this hoping that one guy's advice about the original dub on the DTS version was correct, but he lied!! So I returned it back to Coconuts. If the Akira "Ultimate Collection" DVD features it in Pan-Scan, I'm gonna create a petition for Akira with the original dub with the remastered picture and widescreen format. Boycott Pioneer, the most evil electronics/animation company in the world!! Streamline forever Pioneer never!!

"Vash Vs. Leo"
Akira is cool, I like the Vash-voie. Vash would destroy Leo with his Angel Arm, all Leo can do now is hide in his pathetic suit he calls a shell...Leo has no chance against Vash, that guy who said Leo is better should get punched...

"Vash vs Leo, Leo kills the p*ssy!!"
Akira is the greatest anime, but Kaneda's "Vash" voice makes the movie repulsive to watch. Kaneda's "Leo" voice was a billion times better. Not only that, Leo is tough, cool, and respectable; Vash isn't!! If Leo and Vash got into a fight, Vash would have an advantage because he has firearms instead of swords, but Vash won't exploit that advantage because of his p*ssy belief of not killing his foes. This will give Leo the advantage and he'll chop Vash into bits!! Leo rules Vash blows!! That retard who said that Vash is better in the review below mine ought to be beaten to death with a Soviet sledgehammer!!!!

"Great film"
This is one of the best anime films i've ever seen. The animation is good. Even in the original film the animation is great for a 1988 movie. It is violent and has plenty of language. The dubbing was horrible, not the voice acting but how the characters mouths moved with the words (for those of you who really care about that sort of thing.) I actually liked the voices. If you've ever seen the series Trigun or Dual Parallel - Trouble - Adventure you will probably recognize the voice talents of Johnny Yong Bosch (sp?) who was Vash in Trigun and the dude who played Kasuke in Dual. The story is also pretty cool. The only really downside to the movie (for some people only) is that the movie seems to go on for a really long time. I kept thinking it was about to end and then something else would begin and that got kinda annoying. Overall I really enjoyed this movie and would definately reccomend it especially for fans of the Armitage movies.
