"Utena - The Movie - commentary answers some questions"
Perhaps the most interesting special feature it has is a extra audio and subtitle track of "Director's Commentary" by Kunihiko Ikuhara. It doesn't explain everything but it does answer a lot of those "what were they thinking when they made scene 'X'" questions that tend to come to mind when watching the Utena movie. It won't answer "everything you ever wanted to know
about Utena".

The commentary audio track has the some of the same background audio as the regular movie, but without the character voices. The commentary is in Japanese, the corresponding subtitles are in English. Instead of watching the two together, I watched the regular Japanese audio with the commentary subtitles, so I didn't feel entirely cut off from what the characters were saying.

Unfortunatly, a large part of the Utena movie will be lost on people who have not seen the entire TV series. The last 2/3rds are presently available only on fansubs; making this not the best time to market a "limited edition". The Black Rose arc and the final TV story arc are progressively darker and more sexually explicit than what's out in the USA now.

The movie is full of sexual references (and more nudity) but too busy to follow up on them all; it spends its effort on beauty and surrealism.

There are fewer chapter marks than on the Japanese DVD, making
it a little more work to jump to specific scenes.

"La Fillette Revolutionaire! Adolescence of Utena!"
There are alot of changes in the characters like Utena dressed as a boy ^_^ and Abthy. At first they don't recognize each other but at the end they know each other. They are little bit of Utena's relationship with Anthy who has a glitch of becoming her rose bride. The other characters also have a different setting more of an adult setting than in the series. Like I said they became adults. Akio is real pimp because he was a player back than but he is flamboyant and he has a new hair cut. I think this video rocks!!! There were trailers about this movie which is so goth and I am a huge fan of it!!! Well I think evryone should see this and bring revolution to the world. Also the animation of it is wonderful and very beautiful with romansque designs.

"Absolutely awful, don't get it if you liked rose collection"
I don't know what all the other reviewers are thinking. This movie was awful, there was no continuity within the movie itself and no plot. The animation itself was incredible, but the story makes absolutely no sense. My husband and I both hated it so much we are almost turned off the Utena series entirely. We may still try a black rose collection when it comes out. Take my advice do NOT get this DVD, I think I am going to sell my copy. I wrote this review to warn people to stick to the rose collection and that is it.

"Revolutionary Girl Utena The Movie"
I rated this movie very poorly. It doesn't have much in common with the TV series verion. This movie is not suitable for childern to watch. Adult movie. Subject matter is more on the lisbian side. (No comment on that please) I do so like the TV series and would be interested in further series on this.
Thank You for your time. I hope this helps others in the near future.

"Ikuhara-san's greatest work yet"
From the directorial mind that brought us Sailor Moon and Revolutionary Girl Utena comes one of the greatest creations of this amazing director; the Adolescence of Utena (Utena: Adolescence Mokushiroku). His comentary lends light and explanation to the movie, which is drentched in deep symbolic meaning and abstract metaphores brought to life in this Escher-esque world. The movie takes the beautiful artwork of Chino Saitoh to awe-inspiring new levels, but follows much more closely with Ikuhara-san's vision of what the story really means. One of the greatest movies ever made, though it does help to have seen the entire 39 episode television series first. A brilliant, expressive, throughly beautiful experience all around.
