True to its Sega video-game roots, this futuristic 60-minute movie includes a lot of yelling, crashing, and exploding on the way to saving the world. Sonic and his sidekicks are determined to thwart a plan that would turn their Land of the Sky into the equivalent of The Land of Darkness, which lurks beneath the surface (and is obviously the former planet Earth). So they plow through to the center of the planet and the ancient city of Robotropolis (the former New York City?) to do righteous battle. The big question of the day is whether the usually evil Dr. Robotnik is telling the truth for once or sending the good guys into a trap. The tape's producers suggest viewers be at least 7 years old because of its violence, but the rudimentary nature of the animation will probably make it appealing only to hard-core action fans among the older-kid crowd. --Kimberly Heinrichs

"Sonic's best cartoon appearance ever"
Wow, I thought it was going to be cheesy and man, did this movie get back at me! Alot of Sonic fans haven't seen this movie, and that's depressing in my opinion. Most Sonic interpretations don't capture the fun of the games, but this one does! There isn't alot of the original Sonic cast in it, but alot more familiar faces than in the DiC shows and the comics. But this movie isn't for everyone, if you hate anime then you'll never get used to the humor. I think that the main reason so many people hate this movie is because they're not used to it.

Speaking of, I've noticed a few elements that spark complaints among the fans, and those are (1) the English voices, (2) the president's daughter and (3) the animation. I personally think nothing but good of what causes grief to most of the audience, for instance I love the English voices. Perhaps not as much as I love the Japanese voices, but I don't see any sense in what you complain about. Yes, Sonic sounds British in some instances, Tails sounds like he has a cold, and Knuckles is high-pitched, but what does it matter? It isn't like any of the voices in the 'Sonic Satam' or any of his other DiC appearances did the videogame or even nonexistent characters justice in most cases (no offense Jaleel White). Moreover, I appreciate the cast of the movie in and of itself. Also, as with the president's daughter Sara, everyone says that she isn't a 'dynamic' character, but she played a videogame, doesn't that make her dynamic? And I've seen numerous complaints of her being a brat. Well, that I can't deny, but these people fail to see anything in that character besides that, but I don't care what they choose to think, they can deal with it. And finally, I've heard particularly from crazed fans of Satam that the animation is bad. Well, first off, the other show (which I actually do enjoy) has notouriously bad animation, despite the constant praise it's given. And secondly, the animation in this feature is far superior to that found in the first Sonic shows, and if this film had nothing to do with Sonic, the animation would be good anyhow. Thankfully, the ongoing 'Sonic X' series also has good animation, and so the trend is gone, and I have made my point.

Simply put, I wouldn't change anything about this Sonic the Hedgehog 'movie'. I love everything about it, the characters are wonderful, as is the storyline, the writing skills and the voice performances. In short, this is Sonic's best cartoon appearance bar none, and also his only perfect animated spawn.

"GOOOD YET SOMEHOW BAD!"
THE SONIC MOVIE IS PRETY GOOD,BUT IT'S JUST MISSING SOMETHING.MAYBE THE LACK OF CHARACTERS OR THE BAD ANIMATION OR EVEN THE VOICES.THE VOICES JUST DON'T MATCH THE CHARACTERS.SONIC X ON THE OTHER SIDE THE PEOPLE WHO DO THE VOICES DO A GREAT JOB.THE ANIMATION IS ALSO VERY BAD.THE LACK OF CHARACTERS IS THE WORST PART.ONLY SONIC,SARA,PRESIDENT,TAILS,KNUCKLES,METAL SONIC,OLD MAN KOKO OWL,EGGMAN AND METAL EGGMAN ARE IN THE MOVIE.OTHER WISE IT'S FUNNY AND ENJOYABLE

"Twleve year fan, love the movie-"
I have been a Sonic fan for over eleven years now. I have boughten the games, shows, comics and everything else you can imagine. I Find Sonic to be the first and all ways the most beloved franchise of mine. It is the very foundation of my youth and my friendships. But in otherwords The Movie is awsome, I infact just watched it a few hours ago. If your a Sonic Fan buy it without another thought, if you like good anime or a decent hour-long film then take time and investigate, I won't lie I love this film but I won't mislead those who would rather pass. "Sonic The Hedgehog vs Shadow the Hedgehog, that would be awsome!!!".

"There can only be one Sonic!"-Metal Sonic.

"Terrible"
Sorry, this DVD blew. I have the original japenesse version of the film and it's killer. The voices are in japenesse, but at least Sonic and Knuckles sound tough as nails, and Eggman is much more real.

English version has been reamped for little kids, the dialog was changed, there were a few curse words in the japenesse version and sexual jokes, but it's been completly changed for little kids.

Sorry, I'll stick to my jap. subtitles for real bad a** Sonic action.

"this movie sucked"
i have seen many sonic cartoons over the years and this movie was the worst. the animation was crappy and the character voices cracked. over all it was a bad movie i wouldnt recamend it at all
