"Ninja A Go-Go!!!" This is a great movie. It is intended as a light hearted adventure. A younger generation's not so heavy journey through friendship. Maybe some people don't care about such things, but I do :). It's hip ninja action with 2 male leads who try to do just that in that silly way that makes this a joy to watch. Personal issues arrise and we are witness to how 3 young friends interact with each other. In the end they come out showing what friendship is all about. How can you not like the Ninja Perfect Landing? ;) "More Samurai Fiction fun" This film is SO misunderstood! It is supposed to be "silly" like the kung fu films of the 80s in which it pays it homeage to! The people who claim to have "LOVED" Samurai Fiction but were disappointed here are missing something. This film is VERY much like Samurai Fiction in its humor and character design. One is about samurai one ninja. They ARE different, both japanese but separate sects. Red Shadow should be viewed just as Samurai Fiction or the 80s kung fu/swordplay films. I found this film funny, witty and just fun! Is it a gorefest? of course not neither was Samurai Fiction! Now, Im not comparing Samurai Fiction to Red Shadow in the fact of story but ONLY in character design and humor. The director is good at what he does and you either LOVE it or HATE it! I love both films for different reasons but both can be laughed at and enjoyed in a lighthearted way. "Go Go Power Rangers....this is utter crap" First I agree with all the reviews that gave this garbage a 1 star. This is not my vision of a Samurai film. This cheesy slapstick of an attempt at humor is dry and tasteless. There is no art in this film, just pure stupidity. For example, good coreographers who use their imagination and beauty in scenes are Yen Woo Ping (Fist of Legend) and Zhang Yimou (Hero and House of Flying Daggers). Now that's how you do an action/drama martial arts film. The lameness in this film made me want to shut this loser off in a heartbeat and puke at 10 min. I was wondering where the razorblades were so I could slit my own wrists at 20 min. I thought about clapping if the movie were to burn in my DVD player. Then at 30 min. I was diving towards the TV to turn the wretched thing off. The movie plays out like a Power Rangers show with the lame shouts that are supposed to give the ninja power to do his "magic". The movie was designed to be funny only it's not funny. If I wanted to watch a funny movie I would have bought or rented a movie that was funny with funner actors, ie. Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, etc. Back to Power Rangers. The suits are made like Power Rangers and the moves are just like the Power Rangers. With the ninjas doing 720's 50 times over before engaging is simply like watching a Power Rangers movie. Corny. The plot is supposed to be about 3 ninjas who are in a love triangle with a female ninja dressed in a mini-skirt like leather outfit. Need I say more? Heck Kenshin the anime movie is so much more fun to watch than this. At least Kenshin has style and oh yea Kenshin is a what a REAL samurai movie is about. Trust me those people who gave it 5 stars are ignorant. Throw this one and run as far as possible as you can from this garbage of a movie. This deserves minus 5 stars. Amen. "Entertaining, but..." Two things I immediately noticed: 1) Ancient china didn't have toenail clippers, 2) Nor did they have aerosol spray bottles... both of which were shown in the film. This cheapens it for me. While the action scenes were good, the acrobat scenes were highly unbelievable, and the part where Akakage disappeared in thin air were a bit over the top. That and the part where the master was creating fireworks from his fingertip. It was all done in a serious manner. If this was supposed to be a spoof movie it missed its mark big time. Maybe only a Japanese sense of humor would get it. I don't know. I did moderately enjoy the movie, despite the obvious cheesiness. "This is not the Red Shadow I used to know" Just like the title... This is not the Red Shadow I used to know. Red Shadow is one of the famous Mangas back in 60's or earlier 70's, and was shoot in live-action TV series decades ago. Back in the 80's it was re-done into a whole new animation series which is what I grow up with, and the animation was a big-hit back then. Many toys, products were licensed under the animation line. I personally would say that the animation version of Red-Shadow was the best one. And I hope that they could make a compele series of Red Shadow Animation Series DVD. In addition, the original manga is called "Masked Ninja: Red Shadow", and in the orignal story there are Red-Shadow (a school Teacher before he put mask on), Blue Shadow (a kid ninja who is smart), and White Shadow (a monk type of ninja who is older than Red Shadow and is his assistant). The original series has more like Batman/Spiderman/Superhero type of storyline, Red Shadow has two identities, and the other two ninjas are his sidekicks. Red Shadow even has a secret place where a man makes special weapons for them (Just like Q in James Bond). Kinda miss it. |
