"Awesome, Just as entertaining as Azumi" After watching some of Ryuhei Kitamura's movies, he soon became my favorite Japanese director. I really enjoyed versus, it was highly entertaining and full of violence and black humor. I coincidently stumbled across Azumi in Thailand. I saw that it had a real cool embossed cover with a hot chick holding a samurai sword. Thats more than enough reasons for me to buy a dvd. So I sat down and watched Azumi and wow. This has to be the best action movie i have ever seen! No hollywood movie compares to it. There was so much samurai action in it to keep die hard samurai fans happy, especially the seriously sexy and hot Aya Ueto(Azumi) weilding a samurai swords kept me glued to the screen. Absolutely brilliant. So after being impressed by 2 of Ryuhei Kitamura's movies i ordered Sky High. I had read mixed reviews of it some saying its good and some average. I let myself be the judge. Anyway it came in the mail and i watched it. WOW..... again. Sky High was brilliant I enjoyed every minute of it. It is a highly blended mxture of supernatural drama, horror, action and adventure. The great thing about this movie is there is a good balance of all the genres mentioned. Ryuhei Kitamura didnt go over board with the violence drama and action but kept it at a level at which it was entertaining all the way through the movie. I wish he didnt make the end so emotional.... almost shed a tear..... I loved this movie, just as much as I loved Azumi. Oh forgot to mention the girls on sky high are soooooooo sexy. Back to the topic, I would recommend this movie to fans of Ryuhei Kitamura"s movies or who is after a good Japanese film. Just a note that this is not a hard core action movie. There are action scenes but not as much as Azumi or versus. This is more of a drama but like i said has some action in it and i must say they were well done. Japanese movies are the way to go, Hollywood movies try too hard and are utter crap. Be sure to check out Ryuhei Kitamura's collection. Oh yeah, cant wait for Azumi 2: Death Or Love to come out. Keep up the good work Ryuhei Kitamura. OH BIG UPS TO MY CITY IN NEW ZEALAND, OTAAAAAAAAAAAAAGO! "Fabulous" This movie is incredible, especially if you're fed up with American too much special effects and too little acting. Special effects are used sparingly, and the acting is beautiful--poetry in motion. Shaku-san is gorgeous and talented, perfect for this role. She's very convincing. But, she's not alone. Her co-stars are just as good, and overall, able to draw the viewer into the world. The story is a well-known one, the story of the Urami no Mon (or "The Gate of Rage/Vengence"), but this is an excellent telling on a personal level--beyond the legend. It's based off a manga, so it has well-developed characters and themes. The actual movie has all the important elements for success: action (the sword scenes are lovely and intense, but aren't overdone), revenge (always a good theme for a plot line), and love (would it be anime without it?). The ending is one of the most touching I have ever seen, and Shaku-san's line "oiki nasai" is wonderful. Definitely one of my top all-time favorite movies. |
