"Laputa the legendary sky kingdom rise again"
Can Sheeta and Pazu outwit the evil Muska? ...that is the question to be ascertain as we watch this fine animation creation by master Hayao Miyazaki. What can i say, its like watching a magnificent vision coming to life in front my my eyes. It's like watching Atlantis, the buried city, alive again.
Engaging characters, wonderful storying, beautiful visual
....animation at its best.

I can not recommend this enough for the whole family to enjoy. Remember to bring those tissues if you decide to come for the ride of a lifetime.

"Disney and Pixer eat your heart out"
Pazu, a mining apprentice, finds a young girl wearing a glowing pendant and floating down from the sky. Together, they discover both are searching for the legendary floating castle, Laputa, and vow to unravel the mystery of the luminous crystal around her neck.

"An Exciting Adventure from Beginning to End!"
Castle in the Sky, from acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki, is one of the most colorful and imaginative animated adventures ever. I have seen 4 of Miyazaki's films now, and this one is the best I have seen so far. Air pirates, floating islands, and the mystery behind a special crystal make this a fun movie to watch for people of any age.

The story starts when Sheeta floats mysteriously down from the sky into Pazu's arms. Thankful to Pazu for saving her life, the two become friends. After a gang of air pirates come looking for a mysterious stone that Sheeta was given by her grandmother, Pazu and Sheeta run away. Also, Pazu is determined to find the legendary floating island/castle of Laputa, of which his father found but no one believed. So this is the basic of the plot but there is more to it than this. It is a great plot, and also one concerning man's destruction of the environment, a theme that shows up in many of Miyazaki's films.

This dvd set is wonderful. Not only do you get the movie, which clocks in at a little over 2 hours, but there are plenty of good extras that make this set a must-own for anime fans, Miyazaki fans or any fan that enjoys a good adventure. I highly recommend it, along with Princess Mononoke, Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind and The Castle of Cagliostro.

"Another animated classic"
"Castle in the Sky" is the third Miyazaki film that I have recently rented after having seen the fabulous "Howl's Moving Castle" earlier this summer. I was not disappointed in this film. The film begins with Sheeta escaping her kidnappers who are government agents and a group of bumbling pirates led by Dola because Sheeta possesses a necklace that contains a lot of power. Pazu comes to her aid. Almost immediately the pair are tracked down by both Dola and her gang and a government agent named Muska, forcing the pair to go on the run. This begins a journey to the lost city in the sky Laputa which translates to castle in the sky.

I loved this film. I really like the twists and turns in the characters in the film, namely Dola and her bumbling crew of pirates. The animation wasn't nearly as spectacular as say "Howl's Moving Castle" or "Spirited Away" but it was still beautiful in its own way. I have watched the film in both the Japanese version and the English dubbed version, I definitely prefer the Japanese version because when the film is dubbed over, somewhere along the translation process the film loses some of the spark in its characters.

"Only watch Japanese or French version with subtitles"
One of our favorites for Miyazaki's movie. Disney completely destroyed its ambiance by adding unnecessary music and sound effect for English version. They also changed the theme of the movie by altering dialogues. PLEASE WATCH THIS WITH JAPANESE VERSION WITH SUBTITLES OR FRENCH VERSION. French version does not alter any of its original music score and its dialogue translation is very close to Japanese original. I could have given 5 stars if English version was better.
