"What?!?!" As soon as I saw this was coming to video, I had to have it! heh yeah right! It's good Mewtwo Returns saves the world with Ash Brock and Misty's help. As usual Giovonni's trying to get Mewtwo again so he can rule the world...again! It ends happy. But the DVD version has a special showing of the clone of Ai or as they renamed her Amber! Wow! Arent we lucky!?!? I didnt see it but I do plan to. So get it!! "What? No Pikachu mini-movie?" Though many assume that this was a movie that went directly to video, Mewtwo Returns is actually a special that was shown on Japanese TV a year or so ago. Basically, at the end of Mewtwo Strikes Back, Mewtwo made everyone forget about him and the events that took place on his island... except for the one who funded his creation, Team Rocket leader Giovanni. After a quick recap, we find that Mewtwo and the clones has settled down on a remote mountain lake in the middle of the Johto region and that Giovanni has tracked him down. As you might expect, Ash and company are in the same area, along with Jessie, James and Meowth. Through a series of events, they all find themselves trying to save Mewtwo and the clones from the clutches of Giovanni and an elite Rocket member, Domino. Visually, this is brighter and sharper than the other movies or episodes. The animation is very good, even with the occasional glitch. The sound is ok, but the music, which was taken from the first movie, has a lot of obvious edits in it. If you were expecting a huge, all-out battle between Mewtwo and Giovanni, you'd be mistaken. The action in this movie is rather tame compared to previous movies. The focus in this movie is more on the brooding Mewtwo and his trying to figure out what his purpose in life is. Older anime fans will love the more mature tastes of this movie (and recent episodes of the series), though younger fans might get bored with it. The DVD has the opening for the latest season of the show, as well as trailers for the last three movies. But true Pokemon fans will gobble up the best feature of the DVD; the uncut version of Mewtwo's Origin. This is really the first ten minutes of Mewtwo Strikes Back that was cut out of the US version, which delves deeper into Mewtwo's cloning and the true reason he was so angry in the first movie. This section of the DVD is shown in widescreen, which is a huge plus. Audio commentary is missed, but it really doesn't detract much from the DVD. Overall, this is highly recommended for Pokemon fans, and even more recommended to win over people who believe Pokemon is just for toddlers. "Mewtwo's Back For More!" Ash, Misty, and Brock try, but fail, to catch up with a bus to get pass Mt. Kana, a very dangerous mountain to climb. Luna, a pokemon researcher, invites them to stay at a cabin until the next bus comes. During the night, another pokemon researcher comes (sorry, I forgot his name) with a teen that goes by the name Domino. Team Rocket comes later and steals Pikachu (again) and makes their get-away in their improved balloon. They go flying up Mt. Kana and go out of control due to another storm. Ash and co. climb up the mountain to retrive Pikachu. On the way up, the rope that was hanging on to everyone crash into Team Rocket's balloon and go sailing up and into Mt. Kana. Domino later reviels her true identity as Agent 009. Meanwhile, there is a island on top of Mt. Kana and on that island is Mewtwo and the clones. Mewtwo is VERY different compared to the first movie. Unlike its usual distroy all the humans personality, it wants to be left alone with the clones on the island and live is peace. Domino spots Mewtwo on the island and informs Giovanni were Mewtwo is. Giovanni wants to capture Mewtwo again and try to take over the world again! The balloon later crashes onto the island. The pikachu clone wants to go and live were it wants, not stuck on the island, so it leads some clones and pikachu and meowth across the lake. Giovanni tries to capture the clones but is later stopped by Mewtwo. Giovanni blackmails Mewtwo by saying that if it fights his machines, he will kill the clones. Mewtwo, not wanting the clones hurt, gives itself up by walking into a force feild so it can't get away. Giovanni, wanting Mewtwo to work for him again, makes the machines hurt Mewtwo. He said that he will stop the pain if Mewtwo obays him. Mewtwo said it much rather be dead than work for him. So Mewtwo is stuck in the force feild. Ash and co. are later locked up by Team Rocket (not Jessie and James) with the clones. They later get out and run into Mewtwo in the machine. They try to get Mewtwo out, but can't stop the machines. Mewtwo then overruns the mashine with its physic powers, but at the same time hurts itself even more. The machine explodes and Mewtwo is so weak from the machine that it can barly stand up. The water on the island can heal pokemon that are hurt, and Ash and co. decide to take Mewtwo to the water, but are stop by Giovanni. Misty and Brock holds off Team Rocket while Ash takes Mewtwo to the water. (the pokemon researchers are testing the water to make sure it's not comtaminated) Ash makes it to the water but the researchers say if Mewtwo gets into the water, the water will be comtaminated. Ash, who cares more about Mewtwo than the water, throws Mewtwo into the water anyways. Giovanni comes and demands to know were Mewtwo is and tries to distroy the spring. Mewtwo flies out of the water that healed it and gets all ticked off and uses its powers to defend the water and move it to a different spot. It moved the water and erases Giovanni's memory and thanks Ash and co. for their help. Happy ending! Yay! This was an awsome movie! If you are a pokemon fan you MUST GET THIS MOVIE! It's better than any other pokemon movie. "Good way to tie up the loose ends." I enjoyed this story because it was only a few minutes over an hour. It was something that you could rent if you had a free afternoon or buy if you were a big pokemon fan. The story, like I said, it short and sweet. Of course if you are really just a fanatic of the show then there is no reason to actually see this movie, or any of the movies for that matter, because the movies do not ever reflect on the story line of the show. If you've seen the second Pokemon movie you would know this. (Here's a way of proving it: Ash saw Articuno in the second movie which took place in the orange islands, but during the season of Johto League Champions there was a mini series about Articuno and Ash claims he's NEVER seen one and wants to catch one.) Anyway the movie is a good. There isn't any fighting of pokemon, though I know that is what we all really just want to see! Oh and by the way the does DVD provides you with a little more info on why Mewtwo was the way he was in the first movie and why the way he is in this movie. "One of the better pokemon movies" This was a straight foward storyline with Giovanni plotting to recapture mewtwo. Not many real battles in the movie, although some scenes are quite intensly drawn and that kinda makes up for it. Overall a good addition to the pokemon saga. |
