"Great DVD" This DVD is really good. It starts out with Dee and Ryo going on vacation. Away from all the crazy police life. They encounter a dead girl in the river that they are sailing in. There they meet the hotel owner. He seeks revenge for the murder of his daughter from japanese men. All the time this is happening Dee is trying to subdue Ryo into sleeping with him or at least getting Ryo to tell his feelings towards him. "It has it's good and bad points..." Good point: it's Fake on DVD! Bad point: The English language translation, and Dee's horrid, annoying voice. Good point: the story has been fleshed out a little bit more and is somewhat more satisfying than in the manga. Bad point: lots of kissing left out. Darn. Good point: the addition of the wto female tourists as foils for Ryo and Dee. Bad point: even without reading the manga, they practically had a neon "doomed" sign above their heads. Point of interest: whoever did the animation, used a real place in England for the setting. The minute I saw the hotel, I said, "That's in Derwentwater, in the Lakes District!" It looks exactly like the hotel I stayed at. This suspicion was confirmed by the girl with the Peter Rabbit souvenir (the Lakes District was the home of Beatrix Potter.). Like others have said, if you're a fan of the manga, this is a must see. If not...well, there is better anime out there. "good yaoi" a funny story if you are new to the yaoi family.A good movie for children 13 and up. The movie is from the 2nd book, the vaction dee and ryo took in england. the book is different form the movie but all together an hour of pure blis for the yaoi love! -^_^- "Maybe if you're an anime fan . . ." The boy love content was fun, but overall, this is a thin, silly story, rather like a Scooby Doo episode. And it incorporates all the elements that kept me away from anime for so long: the weird faces, screechy voices, spastic secondary characters (JJ I'm talkin' to you, buddy) who jar painfully in contrast to the better developed (and drawn) heros. The English dubbed voices are mostly awful, with most of the cast sounding like the denizens of a Stonewall era gay bar. Again, the two main characters are a nice exception to this, but I ended up listening to the Japanse audio with subtitles. Those voices are much better. This is a classic, but don't expect "Cowboy Bebop" or even "Trigun" quality. "Awsome" I've only read manga 1 and 2, but like endless times. This series is sooooo good! I totally recommend Fake! Warning though, it's shounen ai (meaning gay) so if you don't particularly like gay manga... If you don't know whether you like it then give this a try. It's hilarious!!! |
