"sheesh! this stuff gives me the chill!!" one of my fav anime now.. this is my first ever experience of shonen ai anime and all i can say is IT'S DA BOMB!! sasuga!! the first impression when my sis bought the anime was "yeah right! the shoulder's too broad the hip looks like it's been jammed in between a car jack!" but changed my mind straight away when i heard Dee's crazy american dubbing and Ryo's soft, timid, almost whispery voice. i got the chance to listen to both dialogues. Japanese and english. It was cool! Amazingly, Seki Tomokazu's voice of Dee doesnt sound chichiri-ish at all! the best part of it all has gotta be the "scenes" esp the kissing part. very definatel;y original! the whole OVA is a MUST BUY especially to all the anime freaks out there, and even if ya dont like anime, ure definately gonna burst into tears laughing at all the humor...did anyone noticed... Dee's hair looks alot like tamahome's hair, dont u think?! wheres the sequel?... "If my hubby likes it, what can I say?" I bought it on a lark, seeing it at a gay/lesbian display at the video store. While I'm not a top anime fan, I thought I'd see what I thought. It's actually a refreshing kind of treatment, (though I have to tweak the plot -- lots of people dying and only now someone's looking into it? Perhaps that's a Japanese supposition about the British, but it doesn't really fly.) I enjoyed the characters and most of the scenes. My only real problem is I didn't see any other episodes around here or in the stores -- these sort of characters would be interesting in multiple types of situations, especially with the sexual tension going on. And as I said, my hubby watched it the next day and thought it was a riot. He usually doesn't like the anime and movies I like (I tend to like comedic, scifi and fantasy), so it must have something going on. "Funky humor" Dee is insane. I kept expecting him to scream "I choose you, Pikachiu!" and throw a red and white ball to do battle with Ryo's virginity. The background story was interesting. A nice little whodunit kind of thing. The art was pretty good and Dee's lustful attempts at getting a peice of Ryo were hysterical. However, the whole thing was Japanese-romance-novel contrived. I've seen the same cliched romance in a Godzilla movie (we have a lot of those, don't ask). I've been around men all my life. I have never met one that would get a piece of follow-your-heart-and-face-your-feelings advice and then suddenly realize that he was in (insert hearts and cupid here) love. The subplot wasn't too bad. Someone is killing of Japanese-Americans. It was interesting, though not only simple to figure out, but the motive was as contrived as Ryo's sudden realization of his feelings for Dee. No surprises. Good art, good characters, hysterical situation, bad storyline. If you can tolerate the run-of-the-mill Japanese anime melodrama, then it's not a bad movie. "What a disappointment!" So many people were raving over this movie that I bought it. the animation is fair at best, the script is more laughable than funny. Two of my friends walked out when we watched it. The main storyline, that of the murder mystery, is very underdeveloped, the relationship of the main characters is flirted with, but never really explored much. I base a lot of my anime purchases, and gay theme purchases in general, on reviews of fans and critics alike. I had much higher hopes for FAKE. What a waste. "Fake - no. Bizarre - yes!" Perhaps the strangest "cartoon" I have ever seen. I find Japanese films pretty odd at the best of times but this is quite simply one that has to be seen to be believed. However that is a recommendation. The two main characters actually work quite well and apart from the face explosions (the catoonist can't seem to draw feelings very well) it's not that bad! This is certainly not for main stream viewing but at the same time is not offensive. It's apparently known as "Yaoi" so look it up before you buy or check the other reviews. Summary: Unique. |
