"Major Problem with DVD!!!!" I didn't see the movie but I was waiting for the dvd.To my horror the subtitles destroy the film and there are no english voices over the japan version. The artwork is great but this film is very hard to enjoy and I feel I really wasted my money. I hope Dreamworks does recall this film. These films take a very long time to make at least give the animation fans their money's worth. "Fantastic movie! Lame dvd..." I thought that Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence was an excelent follow up to the 1996 original masterpeice. The animation was just breathtaking to watch. And seeing Batou in his "own" movie was a nice touch for the series. Even though this is an excelent film. The poor dvd features done by none other than "Dreamworks" is not worthy of a film such as this. Sence they went ahead and dubbed Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. They should have got the same people to dub the movie as well. I honestly hate reading subtitles while trying to watch a movie. It is a pain to try and read the entire scrip while keeping up with what is going on above the words. Anyways I encourage all who are fimiliar with the series to rent this movie. It is well worth the money to rent. Or you have the option to wait until "Dreamworks" fixes their mistakes and puts the film out for real.....Bottom line great movie just don't buy it like I did. Rent it and hope that a certain studio (DREAMWORKS) will learn from their mistakes and fix their problem. "Fantastic Film - Worst Anime DVD Transfer of the Year" It's all been said above. If you were lucky to see GITS 2 in the theater then you already know what a fantastic sequel it is. I won't get into the sometimes over-wrought dialog here, except to say the incredible visuals more than compensate. Unfortunately, the poor DVD execution and lame [CLOSED CAPTION] SUB TITLES are really unexcuseable. Definitely rent or borrow the DVD and enjoy the film, but please vote with your wallet and boycott buying this screwed up edition until the inevitable "Collectors Edidtion" with correct English sub-titles, and perhaps even a dubbed English soundtrack becomes is announced by Nightmare, er, Dreamworks. "Shame on Dreamworks" I'm a big fan of Ghost in the Shell, I own the original comic, the first movie on both the regular and special edition dvds and the TV show version up to what has been released in America so far. That said, this is a horrible DVD release of an otherwise good film. Since the TV show (which airs on cartoon networks adult swim) already had a great cast of voice actors dubbing it, you would think they would put an english dub on the DVD. They could've cross-advertised with the show, which has received great ratings in a block of TV that has also been getting great ratings more or less across the board. But no, there is no english dub (an inexcusable mistake on an American Anime release) and not even a proper subtitle track. I can look past not so great cover art and weak special features. But at least make sure someone can watch the movie and follow it easily enough. It's totally unenjoyable the way it is now and I can only hope they'll pull the dvd and get a real special edition out with English Dub and subtitles done in the proper anime format. "Good moive...and yes, poor DVD..." First, the artwork is GREAT. 3D, 2D, all done with great skill. Lots of money was tossed at the film. Subtitled - of course. Somestimes, like when Section 9 is having a meeting, the subtitles can go damn fast. The really bad part is a lot of the subtitles are not needed - I can hear the gun shots guys. It has no English track, sorry, but many of us don't worry about that. Lots of gun battles, female robots and gritty dark streets. Is it EVER day? Good soundtrack, but not great. Lot of it seems to be plucked right out of the first movie. Hehe. Plucked, get it? The plot was taken from one of the many sub-plots from The Ghost In The Shell manga (Vol One) but characters have been changed, details have been added, parts twisted and expanded on so much that you don't know it till the last ten minutes or so WHICH stand alone story was used. That way you don't feel cheated with an old plot and yet the story fits the setting because it, like the background, was from the same source. It doesn't feel forced. The Major does pop up a couple of times and the hound, just to let you have one spoiler, is in no danger. The hound is never in any danger - no body points a gun at him and he is never threatened in any way. His health may be in question, but he never dies on the big screen. Just like the dogs in _The Day After Tomorrow_ and _ID4_ he is the one person you KNOW will make it. Like that cat from Alien. Just to calm all you animal lovers. Don't worry - they kill off a bunch of humans, cyborgs and "other", mostly people who are no good and really should die. For the plot, anyway. I WOULD of given it five stars with cleaner subtitles and a English sound track, but what can you do? |
